How to Verify a Valid Certificate

Every ManualHandlingIreland.ie certificate carries a unique number and QR code. Employers and health & safety officers can confirm in seconds that a certificate is genuine, who it belongs to, and whether it is still in date — no account required.

Why verification matters

Under Irish safety law, employers must be able to show that staff who carry out manual handling have been trained. A certificate that can't be checked is just paper — that's why every ManualHandlingIreland.ie certificate carries a unique certificate number and a QR code, is valid for three years from the date of issue, and can be checked online by anyone at any time.

Option 1 — Scan the QR code

  1. 1

    Open your phone's camera

No app or login is needed — the standard camera app reads the code.

  2. 2

Point it at the QR code

The code is printed on the certificate and on the photo ID card. Tap the link that appears.

  3. 3

    View the verified result

The verification page opens showing a copy of the certificate and its key details.

Option 2 — Enter the certificate number

  1. 1

    Go to the verification page

Open the Verify page on ManualHandlingIreland.ie from any browser.

  2. 2

    Type the certificate number

Enter the number exactly as printed on the certificate, for example in the format MH-2026-XXXXXX.

  3. 3

    Check the details

The page shows the certificate copy and all of the holder's recorded results.

What the verification page shows

If a photo ID card was issued, the card copy is shown alongside the certificate so the person presenting it can be matched to it.

  • A copy of the certificate as issued
  • The holder's full name and certificate number
  • The course modules the holder attended
  • The theory test score and, where taken, the practical assessment score
  • The date of issue and the expiry date
  • The current validity status — valid or expired

For employers and health & safety officers

  • Verify the certificate when the employee presents it — at induction or before assigning handling tasks
  • Record the certificate number, issue date and expiry date in your training records
  • Re-check the record before the expiry date so refresher training can be booked in time
  • Match the name on the verification page to the person in front of you — the certificate belongs to that person only
  • Verification needs no account, so it can be done during an audit or inspection on the spot

What to do if a certificate doesn't verify

First, check the number was typed correctly — every character counts. If the number still isn't recognised, or the details shown don't match the person presenting the certificate, contact us with the certificate number and we will investigate. A certificate that fails verification should not be accepted as evidence of training.
