What the online course covers

The course follows the structure Irish employers and site inductions expect, built around the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the General Application Regulations 2007.

  • Your duties and your employer's duties under Irish law
  • How the spine works and what actually causes handling injuries
  • TILE risk assessment: Task, Individual, Load, Environment
  • Safe lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling and team handling
  • Theory test with instant feedback on every answer

Theory only, or theory plus practical?

For office, retail and low-risk roles, the theory certificate is usually what an employer asks for at induction or refresher time. For construction, healthcare, warehousing, logistics and food production, choose the option that includes the practical assessment: you record yourself performing a lift and our certified instructor scores your back alignment, knee bend and load distance before approving the certificate.

If you start with theory and your employer later asks for evidence of practical competence, you can add the practical assessment afterwards without repeating the course.

How it works

Enter your details, pay once, and you receive an access link by email. Work through the modules at your own pace, take the test, and — on the practical option — record your lift straight from the page or upload a video you already have. Your certificate is a PDF you can download and forward, with a unique number and QR code for verification.

Common questions

Is an online manual handling course valid in Ireland?
Yes. Irish law sets out what training must cover, not how it must be delivered. A course that covers the 2007 General Application Regulations, spinal anatomy, TILE risk assessment and safe technique, and that assesses the learner, meets the expectation. Where a role is handling-heavy, choose the option that includes the practical lift assessment reviewed by our certified instructor.
How long does the online course take?
Most people finish in about 45 minutes. You can stop and return using the access link emailed to you; your progress is saved.
When do I get the certificate?
Theory-only certificates are issued as soon as you pass the test. If you include the practical assessment, your recorded lift is reviewed by our certified instructor and the certificate follows once it is approved.
Do I need any equipment?
A phone, tablet or computer with a browser. For the practical assessment you also need a camera and a light box or similar load to lift.
